I have lived at Lake Canyada for 11 years and own my own home here. My wife teaches AutoCad at John Deere in Moline and I work for a PC game publisher.

So...is it fair that when a hurricane or flooding puts people out of their houses, they get help from the goverment, state, etc, yet the Iowa DNA can just shut our and 200 other residents water off with a minimal warning if no aggreement is made with the park owners by the end of August, virtually putting us out of our homes?

Because our home (which we have invested 1,000's of dollars in) was made in 1972 so we can't even have it moved to another mobile home park!

So what happens to us and our home if we get a short notice we have to leave in few weeks, and leave our home here, when there is nothing wrong with it, when we have paid all our bills, and taxes for 11 years?

I'm disgusted any state/county could do this to a hard working family! I would love to see this mess on 20/20 or another national program.

Based on Frank & Daves opinion of this story they seem to think that Mobile Home Park Residents are Beer Drinking Trailer Trash. I agree from the atricle it is hard to understand the suit but the sterotype applied to the residents is unacceptable.

I would suggest that owners and managers look at outsourcing the payment of their utility bills. This way the bills are audited each month and it would prevent this type of potential shut-off from happening.

It may be the case that they did everything wrong in filing & the whole procedure, but that doesn't mean you have to be an ASS about it.

Don't blame the natural disasters for mismanagement. the South Rest Florida market was a house of cards built on construction jobs and today with an over surplus in housing and bank owned properties dominating the market. I thing greed and lack of knowledge is also to blame...

Actually, Vermont owners are not doing the job of raising rent - the state government is. Vermont has in effect rent control on mobile home lots. Your proposed increase must be submitted to the state for approval but approval is automatic if it is the same percentage as a some consumer price index. Therefore every park raise prices annually. If tenants complain, the park says it the the government recommended increase. In most states there is competition - some parks go without an increase a year, others may have a low increase or a $5.00 increase instead of 5%. In Vermont competition is restrained which is bad in the long run for owners and residents alike.

Frank and Dave state that 55 and older communities are not in demand. I beg to differ. My new 150 lot 55 and older community took longer to fill than I thought it would but now I have 150 home owners who take great pride in their homes and this community. Older people have better ethic's than younger, 95% of my rents are paid before they are due, and the other 5% are paid on time. I am planning another 55 and older community now.

I've been buying, rehabbing & selling 55+ mfgd homes in my area for more than 10 years. Private, for profit Parks have always allowed under 55+ buyers when they own or are selling a home.

As a Florida licensed real estate sales associate, not a day goes by that I am not explaining to a senior seller that their property is worth less $$ due to the limited occupancy. It my market it is the old fashioned supply and demand economic principle.
